Adam Phillips, author of Becoming Freud: The Making of a Psychoanalyst

New book by the always sagacious Adam Phillips on his new book "Becoming Freud". Although Phillips does the right thing by pointing out that Freud's psychoanalysis is not a science. This is precisely why it works- the mind is not a question for science, the brain is. Freud knew this, but thats why he went from neurology to inventing a linguistic therapy of the mind. Phillips, as usual fails to take into account what Lacan did, which would broaden the authors views about contemporary psychoanalysis. None the less, I look forward to reading the new book about Freud's early years and there are some ok introductions to psychoanalytic thinking here.

Reason for pain must be thought differently than "cause".
